Manchester Frontrunners – May 2023 Newsletter
Updated: May 28
We’re nearly half-way through the calendar year now, and with spring in full swing, we’ve been quite busy over the past month here at Manchester Frontrunners! Here are just some of the things we’ve been up to.

It’s a Piece of Cake 10K 2023
Saturday 29th April saw the return of the club’s race, the “It’s a Piece of Cake 10K”, and it was bigger and better than ever, with around 100 more entrants than last year! It was great to see so many Manchester Frontrunners running and volunteering. Many thanks to the core team of Sarah, Jacqui, Martin, Clare, Alan and Joe who helped make it a reality this year. Also thanks to Blair for organising the annual club birthday party at Via afterwards, where we had some visiting Frontrunners from various clubs from across the UK and Ireland.
Perhaps most importantly, though, we raised £829 for George House Trust through our cake sale, which is the most we’ve ever raised for them. There were some really wonderful cakes entered into the charity sale by our runners and volunteers, and we had two of our members win awards for their cakes! Well done to Blair for winning “Fastest-selling Cake” and Joe for winning “Campest Cake”!
Great Manchester Run 2023
As one of the real “home runs”, we always have a number of members take part in the Great Manchester Run, and this year was no exception. In spite of the warm weather, we saw some really good running in both the 10K and the half marathon, including a couple of PBs! As per tradition, we had some drinks at Rain Bar immediately after the run, and while it may have felt a bit too warm for some of those running, it was perfect weather for a couple of drinks by the canal!

We’d also like to thank all those from the club cheering and taking pictures, and a special shout out to one of our co-chairs Jacqui for volunteering!
Thursday light nights are back!
With lighter evenings and (generally) better weather, we’re enjoying our summer routes along the Rochdale and Bridgewater Canal on Thursday evenings, followed by pizza and drinks at Via on Canal Street. If you’re a member who hasn’t been running with us on a Thursday for a while but fancy coming along, check Spond for more details.
If you’re not a member but want to join us at some point on a Thursday (or Saturday), email our co-chairs for more details, and head to our New Runners page for more information.
